Sen. Carper Reflects on Military Service this Veterans Day

WILMINGTON, Del. – Leading up to Veterans Day, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a retired captain in the U.S. Navy who served three tours of duty in Southeast Asia, issued this statement reflecting on his own experiences as a veteran and the contributions of service members across the country.

“As a veteran, I know the sacrifices our service members make by defending our nation,” said Sen. Carper. “We owe our veterans more than just a debt of gratitude for their service to our country. We owe them our sincere commitment to providing them with new jobs and a world-class education and ensuring that they have access to proper resources and support – like housing, health care and financial literacy training. That’s why I continue to work on initiatives that support our veterans, whether it’s legislation, public outreach or constituent services. When you find out that someone has served, make a special point of thanking them and just say to all of them, ‘Welcome home. We’re proud of you, and we’re grateful for your service.'”

Sen. Carper, a member of the Veterans Jobs Caucus in the U.S. Senate, has compiled resources for veterans of all ages on his website.
