Sen. Carper Reacts to Energy Secretary Chu’s Decision to Step Down

WASHINGTON – Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement upon learning that U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu plans to step down from the Cabinet:

“Secretary Chu brought a reasoned, analytical style of thinking to the Department of Energy, and it has served our country well. Under his leadership, President Obama’s administration has developed an all-of-the-above energy policy that has put our country on a path to energy independence. Additionally, Secretary Chu has led efforts to foster energy efficiency upgrades in both the private and public sectors while dedicating new resources to developing clean, renewable energy. These energy sources help reduce harmful pollutants in our air, make us less dependent on foreign oil, and help grow an American energy industry that can create new jobs. I’ve also been especially proud to work with Secretary Chu as we have helped lay the groundwork for a new offshore wind industry along the East Coast, including off the shores of my home state of Delaware. His leadership and partnership will be sorely missed, but I wish him all the best as he departs the administration.”
