Sen. Carper Comments on Chinese Delegation Visit to Delaware

NEW CASTLE, Del. – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement after meeting with the Chinese Delegation:

“This was a wonderful opportunity to welcome the Chinese Delegation to Delaware,” said Sen. Tom Carper. “China is a critical trade partner, both for the First State and the United States. Delaware’s poultry industry is a prime example of the importance of exporting to China. Our chicken producers count China as one of our biggest foreign customers and U.S. poultry products are a major staple of the Chinese’s diet.

“I have worked tirelessly for decades to ensure the First State’s exports to China continue and even expand. After today’s meeting, I hope to continue to work with my colleagues in Delaware, Congress and the Administration to build and strengthen our trade relationship with the Chinese.”

Sen. Carper is an advocate of strengthening trade with China, specifically within Delaware’s poultry industry. This past summer, he was a vocal opponent of the imposed import tariffs on American poultry by the Chinese government.
