Sen. Carper Reacts to Federal Agencies’ Performance Benchmarks for Energy and Sustainability Goals

WASHINGTON – Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senator Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, released the following statement reacting to sustainability scorecards released today by federal agencies:  

“Vince Lombardi used to say if you’re not keeping score, you’re just practicing. The sustainability scorecards released by agencies today show that the federal government is serious about our score when it comes to achieving two important goals — lowering energy costs and reducing our negative impact on the environment. As we grapple with how to address our massive federal deficit, we need to look at every nook and cranny of the federal government to find waste and inefficiency. Any American who has been to a gas station lately can tell you that if you want to save a whole lot of money, reducing energy use is a good place to start.  

“I look forward to reviewing each agency’s progress towards reaching the goals set out by the President’s Executive Order. In the coming weeks I plan on offering legislation that I believe will give federal agencies even more tools to save taxpayer dollars by lowering their energy costs and becoming more sustainable.”
