Senator Carper Reacts to House Republican Proposal to Privatize Northeast Corridor

WASHINGTON – Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement expressing concern about a proposal from House Republicans that seeks to privatize the Northeast Corridor:

“I am concerned about proposals to privatize the Northeast Corridor. Amtrak has operated passenger rail service on the Northeast Corridor since 1971 and, today, employs more than 1,000 Delawareans. Handing over Amtrak’s public assets to a private entity could put these jobs in jeopardy. While I support Amtrak’s current efforts to incorporate private investment into their business model, I reject the calls from some in Congress to carelessly auction off the Northeast Corridor to the highest bidder.”
