Sen. Carper on Sandy Relief Bill: ‘It’s About Time that We Got this Done’

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement after the Senate passed H.R.152, the Hurricane Sandy Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill, which includes emergency assistance for Delaware and other northeast states affected by Hurricane Sandy:

“Simply put, it’s about time that we got this done. It’s been over two months since this ‘superstorm’ unleashed its fury along the Northeast coast, including in Delaware. For too long, residents and business owners in our region saw delays in Washington while they struggled to begin rebuilding their lives. One of the great strengths of our country is that we all pitch in to help each other in our times of need, and we have finally done that today. But we have also sent vital funding to help these coastal states prepare for, and hopefully mitigate damage from, future storms. This component is key to helping ensure that we both lessen the taxpayer costs of cleaning up after future storms as well as reduce the number of lives and properties lost from these powerful natural disasters. I look forward to the President signing this legislation so we can finally deliver assistance to those who need it most.”
