Senator Boozman Joins Senator Carper as Recycling Caucus Co-Chair

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) announced that Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.) will be joining him as Co-Chair of the Senate Recycling Caucus in the 113th
Congress. Founded in 2006 by Sen. Carper and Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), the bipartisan caucus has provided opportunities for Senators and their staffs to learn more about the economic and environmental benefits of recycling in the United States, engage with constituents and industry stakeholders, and help draft policy aimed at strengthening recycling throughout the country.

“I can think of no better partner in this Congress to help lead the charge in advancing recycling and emphasizing the industry’s impact on promoting the domestic manufacturing sector than John Boozman,” said Sen. Carper. “Our bipartisan Senate Recycling Caucus works to support the $235 billion American recycling and remanufacturing industries so they can create good-paying jobs for Delawareans, Arkansans and all Americans, while ensuring
environmental stewardship. Since its creation in 2006, the caucus has raised
awareness and drawn attention to declining recycling rates across the country,
currently only about 33 percent of total waste. But, as Einstein said, in adversity lies opportunity. I look forward to working with John to take advantage of this opportunity to help more Americans understand the benefits – economic and environmental – of recycling.”

“I am proud to join Sen. Carper in this effort, which will provide both economic and environmental benefits. Recycling reduces waste, saves energy, and promotes innovation. All Americans are familiar with the recycling of aluminum cans and glass bottles.  However, recycling is much broader than these common practices.  We need to enable American entrepreneurs to capture and reuse many other materials, such as valuable metals that previously went to landfills.  Arkansas is a major steel-producing state, and our steel products are recycled.  These industries employs thousands of hardworking Americans, and we need to continue our efforts to improve policies that encourage job growth and the benefits of recycling,” Sen. Boozman said.
