Prospective Applicants Turn Out for Sen. Carper’s 13th Annual Service Academy Information Night

DOVER, Del. –  U.S. Sen. Tom Carper hosted the 13th annual U.S. Service Academy Information Night at Delaware Technical Community College’s Terry Campus on Wednesday.  Dozens of prospective applicants from throughout Delaware and the neighboring region attended, along with their families and administrators, to learn about post-secondary options with the U.S. service academies.

“This is one of my favorite events that we’ve hosted now for more than a dozen years,” Sen. Carper said. “A service academy is a wonderful way to get an excellent education and gain valuable leadership skills. I was fortunate to attend The Ohio State University on a Navy ROTC scholarship.  Not only did this financial support allow me to help pay my way through college but it also jumpstarted my 23-year career in the Navy and provided me with valuable training in leadership and service that have been critical throughout my career.”

Sen. Carper recently named his nominees for the Delaware vacancies in the service academies for the class of 2018. The complete list of nominees is available here: http://1.usa.gov/1backqm.

Members of the United States Naval Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the United States Military Academy, the United States Coast Guard Academy and the Delaware National Guard, as well as Air Force, Army and Navy ROTC program representatives and the Delaware Civil Air Patrol were on hand to provide information on and answer any questions about their respective institutions.

In June, Sen. Carper and the rest of the Delaware Congressional delegation will host a reception in Washington for all students who accept their appointment.
