Sen. Carper’s Statement on the Budget Resolution

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement after the Senate passed a budget resolution on a mostly party-line vote.

“Today, I voted against a flawed budget plan that would slow or reverse much of the progress our economy has made in its recovery from the Great Recession. The budget sent by President Obama to Congress last month would create jobs, make our government more effective, prevent waste and fraud, and stimulate economic growth through smart investments in rebuilding our transportation infrastructure, strengthening our education system, training our workforce, and encouraging research and development. Instead, the Republican alternative funds all the wrong priorities – it spares the defense budget from sequestration, while doing nothing to protect the domestic discretionary budget from the same draconian cuts. It eliminates the Affordable Care Act, yet still takes credit for the revenues and savings generated by the law. These are shenanigans I cannot support.”
