Senator Carper: There are no alternative facts about climate change

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Environment and Public Works Committee, reacted to the systematic removal of climate science information from the public whitehouse.gov website, and potentially from other agency websites, in the opening hours of the Trump administration.

“Removing information on the threat of climate change from the White House’s website does not change the fact that climate change is real and an imminent threat to Delawareans and all Americans. The fact that the Trump administration prioritized the removal of scientific information from the public White House website in the first few hours on the job should be deeply disturbing to every American. This action further underscores the grave concerns I have regarding the nomination of Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – a man who said just last year that the debate on climate change is not settled.

“There are no alternative facts when it comes to climate change; 97 percent of climate scientists around the world agree that climate change is real and the result of human activity. Any statements to the contrary are intellectually dishonest and any attempts to hide the truth are incredibly dangerous. Instead of burying our heads in the sand as the sea rises around us, we must act to protect this planet for our grandchildren and the generations to come.”
