Carper Votes to Confirm Christopher Wray Nomination

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), a senior member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement after voting to confirm Christopher Wray as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

“While I remain deeply troubled by President Trump’s firing of former FBI Director Jim Comey, the FBI has important work to do and needs Senate-confirmed leadership at its helm. Christopher Wray is a proven public servant with an impressive law enforcement track record, and I believe he is well-equipped to take the reins of the FBI during these challenging times.

“During his Senate confirmation process, Mr. Wray committed to upholding our Constitution and maintaining the independence and integrity of the FBI. Under oath, Mr. Wray pledged to allow Special Counsel Mueller’s ongoing investigation into possible collusion between Russia and Trump campaign officials to continue unimpeded, and to assist in that investigation as needed. Given the unprecedented circumstances that led to this vacancy, I am reassured that Mr. Wray has made these strong commitments to the American public. The FBI is no place for politics, and I am confident that Mr. Wray will lead the FBI without allowing any political interference right from the start.”
