Delaware Congressional Delegation Hosts Veterans’ Job Fair

DOVER, Del. – U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons and U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester (all D-Del.) continued their goal of connecting veterans with employment opportunities by hosting the first of two job fairs for veterans. Thirty-four employers participated in the Dover job fair.

“As a 23-year veteran of the Navy and Navy Reserve, I’m proud to once again host a job fair to give back to those who have done so much for our country,” said Senator Carper. “We have a sacred obligation to care for our veterans and their families. These veteran-specific jobs fairs help us fulfill this obligation and provide Delaware’s veterans with the opportunity to meet with employers to discuss civilian careers.”

“Veterans are tested leaders who have learned how to manage people through some of the most difficult situations imaginable,” said Senator Coons. “This job fair connected veterans with employers hiring men and women with those unique skills and leadership experience. Veterans bring extraordinary backgrounds to their civilian careers and would be an asset to any company.”

“Our veterans never hesitated in answering the call to defend our freedoms and protect our citizens. They sacrificed for this country, and they have earned the right to a top education and a good-paying job,” said Congresswoman Blunt Rochester. “It is critically important that we provide our veterans with the tools they need to transition into civilian life and thrive in today’s economy. That is why I am proud to join our congressional delegation in hosting another successful job fair. As a former Secretary of Labor and State Personnel Director, I have spent my career connecting Delawareans with meaningful work, and I will continue working across party lines to make it easier for veterans to get job training, start a business, and live the American Dream.”

Delaware’s Congressional Delegation has hosted more than 30 general job fairs, including 12 for veterans. The next job fair for veterans and their families is on Sept. 7, 2018, at the Middletown Fire Hall, Middletown, Del. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
