Carper Slams EPA’s Proposal to Weaken Methane Emission Standards

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposal to weaken oil and gas industry emission standards under the New Source Performance Standards (NSPS):

“Unfortunately, rolling back commonsense environmental and health protections to benefit polluters and ignoring sound science is the norm in the Trump Administration. The dangers posed by methane gas couldn’t be more clear. As a result, we’ve taken meaningful, and bipartisan, steps over the years to reduce methane – a pollutant driving climate change that also poses serious health risks to our families. Reversing course now is dangerous and ignorant. We can’t afford reckless policies like this that prop up the oil and gas industry at the expense of our children’s health.”
