Carper Statement on the Resignation of EPA Assistant Administrator Bill Wehrum

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), released the following statement about the abrupt resignation of EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation Bill Wehrum.

“Bill Wehrum leaves behind at EPA an air agenda that was forged at the behest of industry and at the great expense of public health. Despite his sudden departure, it is incumbent upon the Office of Inspector General to complete the requested investigation into Mr. Wehrum’s actions. I, and others, asked that the IG look into several of Mr. Wehrum’s actions that appear to be questionable efforts to achieve the policy objectives of his former clients.  The IG should continue to examine these actions particularly because the policies Mr. Wehrum advanced and his deputy, former Hunton employee David Harlow, remain at the agency.
