Carper Meets With President-elect Biden’s Nominee for Treasury Secretary

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement after meeting with Janet Yellen, President-elect Joe Biden’s intended nominee to lead the Treasury Department. Senator Carper’s statement when Janet Yellen’s nomination was announced can be found here.

“Today, I had the pleasure of meeting with Janet Yellen, an exceptionally qualified and renowned economist who will help President-Elect Biden build back a stronger and more inclusive economy as American families face these challenging times. During our conversation, we talked about the importance of embarking on an economic recovery that not only supports families and communities that have been devastated by the pandemic, but also puts us on a more equitable and sustainable path going forward. We also discussed the existential threat that climate change poses to our economy and how a Treasury Secretary can contribute to President-elect Biden’s ambitious climate agenda.

“It is nearly impossible to find any individual more qualified for this position than Janet Yellen. She is a historic choice for Treasury and her track record of success has earned her well-deserved respect from Republicans and Democrats alike for good reason. As we seek to get our economy back on track, I encourage my colleagues to swiftly confirm Janet. With the monumental economic challenges our country is facing, there is absolutely no time to waste. I know she will be ready on day one.”
