Carper Statement on Latest U.N. Climate Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today issued the following statement on the latest climate mitigation report by the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC):

“Today’s IPCC report says the science remains clear — we are running out of time to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis. We must act with greater urgency to drive down greenhouse gas emissions globally. In Congress, that means passing robust legislation to unleash the power of American clean energy and move our nation closer to meeting our shared climate goals. Future generations will look back at this critical moment in history to assess our response to these clear warnings. If we fail to act, we will leave the costly burden of addressing this crisis to our children and their children — or even worse — leave them with an irreversibly damaged planet.”
