Hearing: "Census: Planning Ahead for 2020"

Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services, and International Security

Jul 18 2012

WASHINGTON – Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services, and International Security, will hold a hearing titled "Census: Planning Ahead for 2020" on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in room 342 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.

Planning for the 2020 Census is already underway, which is a major effort that involves extensive research and development throughout the decade. The Bureau is conducting an internal review of its 2010 operations to identify ways to better manage longstanding issues such as increasing participation and managing costs. This hearing will identify lessons learned from the 2010 Census, identify technological advances that can be used to improve data quality, and reexamine areas that could help produce a more cost-effective 2020 Census. It will also assess recent developments with the American Community Survey, an ongoing statistical survey that produces demographic information.
