MIDDLETOWN, Del. – On Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, U.S. Sen. Carper (D-Del.) will be in Middletown for the following event:                                                    

Sen. Carper will talk to seniors about Medicare Part D benefits and open enrollment, which ends tomorrow, Dec. 7, at the Middletown Senior Center. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Medicare benefits for the 150,000 Medicare enrollees in Delaware include lower prescription drug costs through a 50 percent discount on covered brand name drugs in the coverage gap – or “donut hole” – as well as wellness checkups and access to certain preventive care with no copayments.

Time: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Location: Middletown Senior Center, 300 S Scott St, Middletown, Del.

Sen. Carper will tour Christiana Care’s Middletown Emergency Department facility. The $37 million, 36,500-square-foot facility opened last spring. The facility includes 18 treatment bays and eight observation-unit beds staffed by board-certified physicians and specially trained nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The emergency department serves a population of approximately of 86,000 residents of lower New Castle County and upper Kent County.
