10 AM | Indian River High School
U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) will visit the Second Annual Community Blood Pressure Screening Fair at Indian River High School. This event provides an important community service, while giving students in the Health Professionals - Nurse Assisting and Patient Care pathway an opportunity for hands-on experience.
Last year, 178 people in the school population and local community had their blood pressure screened. Of those participants, 20 percent had blood pressure in the danger zone and were referred for follow up with their doctors. High blood pressure is a leading cause of heart attacks, strokes and kidney disease.
The Health Professionals - Nurse Assisting and Patient Care pathway program at Indian River High School offers a hands-on introduction for students looking to pursue higher education in health care. The program is funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Education and the Delaware Department of Education.
