Event will highlight the alleviated traffic congestion on the one-year anniversary of the opening of the I-95 E-ZPass highway-speed lane opening at the Newark Toll Plaza.

WILMINGTON – On Thursday, July 5, 2012, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) will join Delaware Department of Transportation and AAA Mid-Atlantic officials to highlight the one-year anniversary of the opening of the I-95 E-ZPass highway-speed lane openings at the Newark Toll Plaza. Prior to the installation of the E-ZPass highway-speed lanes, drivers would experience delays, sometimes for hours on a holiday. With the installation of the new lanes, E-ZPass drivers have had delays completely eliminated.

The I-95 Newark Toll Plaza opened in July 2011 after it underwent reconstruction and reconfiguration to incorporate two highway-speed E-ZPass lanes in the northbound and southbound directions. The project cost approximately $32.6 million and was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
