Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Business Meeting

Key Senate Committee to Vote on Sen. Carper's Federal Properties Bill and GAO Audit and Review Revision Bill

Jun 27 2012

WASHINGTON—The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a business meeting on Wednesday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m. The Committee will consider the Federal Real Property Asset Management Reform Act (S.2178) and the GAO Mandates Revision Act of 2012 (S. 3315), both introduced by Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.), among other bills.

In March, Sen. Carper, along with Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), and Mark Begich (D-Alaska), introduced the Federal Real Property Asset Management Reform Act, which would help facilitate the disposal of underutilized and unneeded federal property and establish a framework for federal agencies to better manage existing space in a more cost-effective manner. Last week, Sen. Carper introduced the Government Accountability Office (GAO) Mandates Revision Act (S. 3315), legislation that would free-up GAO resources by reducing a list of current, but outdated audits and reviews that are mandated by Congress. Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) and Ranking Member Susan Collins (R-Maine) are cosponsors of the measure.
