Event

SMYRNA, Del. – On Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, U.S. Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons (both D-Del.) will join Mayor Pat Stombaugh, USDA Rural Development State Director Jack Tarburton and Dr. Thomas May of the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) to highlight drinking water improvements in Smyrna that were made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). This event will also recognize the continuation of the project with a two-phase direct loan from USDA Rural Development to complete the project.

Over $3.7 million in ARRA funds were allotted to the Town of Smyrna in 2009. The DPH State Revolving Loan Program estimates that approximately 80 jobs were created as a result of the Smyrna projects. USDA has now provided 2 loans totaling $3.4 million to enable the Town to complete the project providing clean drinking water to residents and businesses north of Smyrna along the Route 13 corridor.
