Sen. Carper to deliver annual James R. Soles Lecture on the Constitution and Citizenship

NEWARK, Del. – On Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) will deliver the James R. Soles Lecture on the Constitution and Citizenship. Professor Soles was a member of the University of Delaware Political Science and International Relations faculty for more than 34 years. While Professor Soles received many awards and recognitions in his distinguished career, he is still best remembered for his personal dedication to teaching and to his students.  Professor Soles died on Oct. 29, 2010.

 Professor Soles provided Senator Carper with his first political experience in 1974 while he was a graduate student at the University of Delaware. Sen. Carper served as the treasurer of the James Soles for Congress Committee.  From that time on, Professor Soles served as a mentor and close advisor of the Senator.
