WASHINGTON – Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) will hold a telephone town hall meeting to hear questions, comments and concerns from Delawareans. Sen. Carper will answer participants' questions and share his thoughts on a range of topics, but he will focus primarily on the ongoing debate over raising the U.S. debt ceiling and the need for deficit reduction. The call will begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011.
Sen. Carper has held several successful telephone town hall meetings over the last two years to talk about topics including health care reform and the economy. He has reached tens of thousands of Delawareans on those calls.
"Telephone town hall meetings provide a unique and convenient forum to allow thousands of Delawareans to participate in a conversation about what's important to their lives, families and communities," said Sen. Carper. "I use these opportunities to learn how I can better serve the people and state of Delaware. Given the intense debate in Congress and in Delaware about the fiscal challenges facing our country, including the looming August 2nd deadline to raise our nation's debt limit, I can think of no better time to have this conversation with my friends and neighbors across the First State. I look forward to hearing the questions and comments of my fellow Delawareans and sharing my views on this important topic."
The telephone town hall is part of an ongoing effort by Sen. Carper to address questions and concerns Delawareans have about issues affecting the state and the nation. To sign up for the telephone town hall, constituents may call one of Sen. Carper's offices in Delaware or Washington, D.C., or email townhall@carper.senate.gov with your name and phone number (with area code). Entries without a phone number cannot be processed. Please sign up by 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011.
