Sen. Carper will tour the Delaware Technical and Community College's Energy House which was recently awarded LEED Platinum certification by the United States Green Building Council. This house, which will be a teaching platform for the college, features super insulation, energy-efficient foundation, solar panels on the roof, three heating and cooling systems, a rain garden and highly energy-efficient landscaping. Construction for this project was funded in part by a U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant in the amount of $800,000.
