WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Tom Carper (D-Del.), John McCain (D-Ariz.), Mark Udall (D-Colo.), and Dan Coats (R-Ind.) will hold a press conference in the Senate Radio/Television Gallery tomorrow, Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 2:15 p.m. ET to urge the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to include in their final legislation a bipartisan proposal supported by a bipartisan group of 37 co-sponsors that will give the president statutory line-item veto authority to reduce wasteful spending.
Last January, the Senators introduced S. 102, the Reduce Unnecessary Spending Act, which would give the president a Constitutional line-item veto authority to reduce wasteful appropriations by singling out earmarks and other non-entitlement spending in legislation that is sent to the White House for the president's signature.
