Hearing: "Innovating with Less: Examining Efforts to Reform Information Technology Spending"

Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services, and International Security

May 24 2012

WASHINGTON – Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services, and International Security, will hold a hearing titled, "Innovating with Less: Examining Efforts to Reform Information Technology Spending" on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in room 342 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.

The hearing will explore efforts by the Obama Administration to cut wasteful and inefficient spending on the federal government's Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. The hearing will address the progress of President Obama's 25 point plan – proposed in December 2010 – and whether or not it will reach its June 2012 deadline to rein in IT spending and make the federal government's IT work better. It will also examine the future of IT reform, including how the government can learn from the private sector to get better IT results for less money and why Congressional action – like legislation co-authored by Sen. Carper, the Information Technology Investment Management Act of 2011 – is necessary to keep our nation's IT reform moving forward.

The hearing will feature testimony from Federal Chief Information Officer, Steven VanRoekel. This is the first Congressional hearing Mr. VanRoekel has testified before since becoming the nation's second Chief Information Officer.
