WILMINGTON, Del. – On Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), along with Deborah Bagatta Bowles, CEO of the YMCA of Delaware, will welcome Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Tom Frieden to Delaware to discuss the diabetes epidemic in Delaware, as well as nationally, and the impact the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program has demonstrated in Delaware. Joining the discussion will be Governor Jack Markell, Delaware Health and Social Services Secretary Rita Landgraf, Delaware Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay, Dr. Michael Rosenthal, Chair of Family and Community Medicine at Christiana Care Health System, and participants from the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program.                                                      

The goal of this roundtable is to examine the program’s progress and explore how to create new partnerships and strengthen current partnerships throughout the state with the medical community, insurance providers, community organizations and government legislation to affect change.
