BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Today, nearly 80 veterans came out to a job fair hosted by Delaware’s Congressional Delegation of Sens. Tom Carper, Chris Coons and Congressman John Carney (all D-Del.) at the Bridgeville Library.
Twenty five employers and organizations offering services and resources to veterans were on hand. The Department of Labor held two resume-building workshops which gave veterans the tools they need to develop an attractive resume for prospective employers.
“As a 23-year veteran of the Navy, I know firsthand the sacrifices members of our military make by defending our nation,” said Sen. Carper, a member of the Senate Veterans Job Caucus. “We have a responsibility to ensure that our returning heroes have resources and opportunities when they arrive home. That’s why we work so hard to offer these opportunities for vets up and down the state.”
“We are a stronger and more prosperous nation with veterans in our workforce, just as their service makes us safer and more secure,” Senator Coons said. “Too many of our service men and women experience roadblocks when they transition to civilian life and employment, and we are all worse off for it. Job fairs like today’s play a critical role easing that transition by connecting veterans with the resources they need. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that Delaware’s veterans have the tools they need to succeed when they arrive home.”
“I'm very pleased that so many veterans and employers took advantage of today's job fair,” said Congressman Carney. “Veterans leave the service with important skills, such as leadership and teambuilding, that translate directly to the workplace. I'm sure that many who attended today made relationships and found opportunities that will help them begin the next phase of their careers. I'm looking forward to building on this success with our next veterans job fair in Middletown.”Each year, the Congressional Delegation hosts job fairs for veterans and non-veterans throughout Delaware. The next job fair for veterans will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Middletown Volunteer Hose Company, 27 W. Green St., Middletown, Del.
