President Trump’s EPA has attempted to systematically dismantle the basic environmental and public health protections that keep Americans safe

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, highlighted actions taken by President Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including those of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and his team, to undermine the core mission of the agency in the first year of the Trump Administration. A selection of some of the most detrimental actions taken by EPA over the past year can be found here.
“For the past year, scientists, public health professionals and concerned parents have watched aghast as President Trump’s leaders at EPA have worked to erode decades of clean air, clean water and land protections,” said Senator Carper. “These actions, taken together, are more than an assault on our environment and fundamental science – they are a threat to the health and safety of millions of Americans. The deliberate dismantling of nearly half a century of common sense EPA protections not only stands in stark contrast to the agency’s long, bipartisan tradition, it is shortsighted and irresponsible.”
Trump’s EPA has systematically worked to undermine fundamental protections for our environment and public health. From nominating extremists to some of the highest posts in our government, to willfully ignoring sound science and stripping the protections that keep millions of Americans safe, this administration has spent its first year reversing the progress our country – through both Democratic and Republican administrations – has made over decades. A summary of actions taken by President Trump’s EPA in its first year can be found here.
