WASHINGTON, DC – Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., today issued the following statement regarding Senate Majority Leader Frist’s decision to vitiate a cloture vote on the motion to proceed to the class action reform bill [S. 2062]. Carper, along with other Democratic sponsors of the class action bill, last week urged Frist to complete work on the defense bill first -- given the ongoing military conflicts overseas -- before taking up the class action measure. “Senator Frist made the right decision today to postpone the class action legislation until after the Senate completes its work on this year’s defense authorization bill. It’s my hope that we can complete both the defense and class action measures this month, and I will work with my colleagues from both parties to finish both bills in a timely fashion.”
