WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement in response to today’s U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Inspector General’s report on its revised plan for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Headquarters Consolidation Project. This report found that GSA did not accurately represent the costs of its revised plan, and the new plan would likely cost more than the original. The report also revealed the GSA Administrator may have misled Congress in testimony before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government earlier this year.
“This report makes clear that the Trump Administration has not been forthcoming with information regarding the costs or purpose of reversing course on plans for consolidation of the F.B.I. Headquarters. It raises questions about the Trump Administration’s true agenda with respect to this project” said Senator Carper. “As the top Democrat on the Environment and Public Works Committee, I will work to get the answers we need to ensure F.B.I. facility plans are based on what is best for the agency’s employees, their critical mission on behalf of the country, and the taxpayers, not the whims of political appointees.”
