WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Tom Carper joined the Senate today in passing major election reform legislation that he co-sponsored. The bill requires that each state meet strict election standards by 2006, helps states pay for upgrades to outdated election machinery, combats voter fraud, and expands voting access to persons with disabilities. "This bill moves the nation forward to ensure that all votes are counted and every registered voter can have his or her voice heard," Carper said. "By removing obstacles to voter participation, our democracy is strengthened." When Senator Carper was Governor, Delaware became a national leader in reliable voting by instituting electronic voting machines that were some of the most accurate in the nation.
