Feb 06 2004

Wilmington, DE – Senator Carper will join officials from GM and local auto workers unions to formally announce that the 2006 Pontiac Solstice will be built at GM’s Wilmington assembly plant. In early January, Senator Carper was invited and attended the 2004 North American Auto Show in Detroit for the unveiling of the 2006 Pontiac Solstice. "The announcement that the Pontiac Solstice will be built at GM's Wilmington assembly plant is great news for Delaware. It means the future of the assembly plant looks bright," said Senator Carper. "It is testimony to the hard work and productivity of the men and women who work there and to the idea that Delaware is a good place to do business." "I and many others fought hard to keep the plant open in the early 1990s," said Senator Carper. "We have continued to support the plant right up to the present. The decision to build the 2006 Pontiac Solstice at GM's Wilmington assembly plant is further confirmation that our efforts were on the mark and that the decision over a decade ago to keep the plant open was the right one."
