WASHINGTON – Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement in reaction to the Administration's proposal on menu labeling requirements issued earlier today:

"We passed the menu labeling law to help Americans make healthier choices when they dine out. It's not a cure-all for America's obesity problem by any means. Instead, it's another tool Americans can use to make better choices for themselves and their families. Today's proposed regulation by the Obama Administration follows the intent of that law and helps to ensure the timely implementation of the menu labeling law."

Sen. Carper, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, was instrumental in crafting the provision on menu labeling that was included in the Affordable Care Act, which President Obama signed into law last year. The menu labeling provision requires restaurants, vending machines and other retail food outlets with 20 or more locations nationwide to disclose nutritional information about their standard menu items.
