WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) spoke about the anthrax incidents in Washington, DC from the floor of the Senate today, calling for resolve. "It is important today that those who are serving our country on the other side of the world in this war- our sailors, soldiers and airmen, are sent a clear message," Carper said. "There is a time for fear and there is a time for resolve. Our resolve is being tested and it is critically important that we meet that test." "We have a lot of work to do. We have appropriation bills to pass to meet the needs of our nation. We have compromises to hammer out on terrorism legislation and airport and rail security. We have legislation in conference on education to raise the achievement level of our students and make sure that there's a patient's bill of rights that is fair to everybody in this country. We have plenty to do. The idea that we need to take a break from this place for a while is the wrong approach. We need to stay here, we need to stay on the job." Text of the complete floor speech is also available.
