WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) announced that Michael McGowan, has been nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as United States Marshal for Delaware. Michael McGowan currently serves as the New Castle County Director for U.S. Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), a position he has held since 2011. Previously, McGowan spent 22 years with the New Castle County Police Department, from which he retired in 2011 as the Department’s Chief of Police.
“I have gotten to know Mike over the last several years and I am proud to nominate him to serve as the United States Marshal for Delaware,” said Sen. Carper. “He has honorably served New Castle County Police, where he culminated his 22 year-career as the department’s chief, and he has been an instrumental member of Sen. Coons’ team where he focuses on county and law enforcement issues. It is with great confidence that I say that Mike will serve Delaware – and our country – honorably.”
McGowan is affiliated with the Police Executive Research Forum, and he serves on the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau of Delaware. McGowan received his B.S. from the University of Delaware in 1984 and his M.S. from Wilmington University in 2008.
McGowan’s nomination will next be considered by the Senate for consideration.
