WILMINGTON—U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons and U.S. Representative John Carney (all D-DE), all members of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, announced today that Frankford Volunteer Fire Company has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) totaling $132,715. The grant will help Frankford VFC purchase 17 self-contained breathing apparatuses for its firefighters.

“As co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, I believe we must do everything we can to protect the men and women who protect us in the unfortunate event of a fire or other man-made or natural disaster,” said Sen. Carper. “This award will help the Frankford department safely do their job, and I greatly appreciate their call to duty to protect this Delaware community.”

“We owe a great deal of gratitude toward firefighters up and down the state for the sacrifices they make in the name of protecting citizens in their communities,” said Senator Coons, a member of the Congressional Fire Service Caucus. “The members of the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company are not only getting 17 self-contained breathing apparatuses; they are getting the peace of mind of increased safety while fighting fires and saving lives.”

“Delaware firefighters consistently show the willingness and dedication to put the safety of others ahead of their own,” said Congressman John Carney, a member of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus. “This grant will help the members of the Frankford Fire Company purchase the equipment they need to better protect themselves and all of us. Congratulations on receiving this award and thank you for protecting our communities every day.”

Assistance to Firefighters grants are administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The goal is to help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, vehicles, training, and other resources used to protect the public.
