Our Celebration Must Continue

Dear Friend,

Over the past month of February, families in Delaware and across the country celebrated and reflected on the tremendous achievements of African Americans and the contributions they continue to make to help shape and enrich our nation. Working to form a “more perfect union” is a never-ending exercise. We can, and always should, strive to do better. But our great nation has taken important steps toward equality for all, and we can’t forget about the men and women who dedicated their lives to get us here.

Dr. King once said, “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” We saw from Dr. King’s life work, though, that the arc does not bend on its own. It’s up to all of us to do our part. It’s on each and every one of us to ensure that we are always moving forward toward equality and justice for every American. Even as the month of February draws to a close, I hope that our celebration of the contributions African Americans continue to make to this country lasts throughout the year.

God Bless,

Tom Carper
