Senator Carper’s Statement on Memorial Service for Corporal Stephen Ballard

WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement following the memorial service for fallen Delaware State Trooper Corporal Stephen Ballard:

“Today we saw people from all over the state and the country gather in Wilmington to pay their respects and honor the tremendous life of Corporal Stephen Ballard. Their incredible showing reminded us of the strength of the law enforcement family. As Maya Angelou once said, ‘I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.’ Corporal Ballard made people feel. He was dedicated to his family, he devoted his life to making people feel safe, and he invested in his community so that he might help his friends and neighbors be proud of where they came from. He did this through his work as an officer, a mentor to young men and women at Delaware State University, a husband, father, son and friend. My heart is with Louise and Abigail, his parents, Kevin and Robin, and all of his family, friends, fellow law-enforcement officers and the many people whose lives he changed for the better.”
