Carper, Coons, Blunt Rochester Statement on Port of Wilmington Expansion to Edgemoor

Today, U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, along with Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (all D-Del.) applauded Delaware’s next steps on the Port of Wilmington’s Edgemoor terminal expansion.

Delaware’s congressional delegation has long supported the Port of Wilmington and its plans to include a facility in Edgemoor. In 2022, Carper, Coons, and Blunt Rochester helped secure $9.2 million for operations and maintenance work on the Wilmington Harbor, including a new management plan to support the Port’s expansion to the Edgemoor terminal. Last November, the delegation helped secure a $50 million Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Edgemoor expansion. The PIDP grant was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, authored and championed by Carper, Coons and Blunt Rochester.

“The Port of Wilmington and the Edgemoor terminal expansion will fuel considerable economic growth – and that includes good-paying jobs – for Delaware and our region,” said Senators Carper, Coons and Congresswoman Blunt Rochester in a joint statement. “We are proud to work with Governor Carney and the Diamond State Port Corporation to deliver the significant federal funds needed for this project, which will remediate a legacy industrial site and enable the electrification of the port to make Edgemoor one of the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly ports in the country.”
