Carper Joins Leading Advocates and Clean Energy Companies in Applauding Electric Vehicle Investments in Infrastructure Legislation

WILMINGTON, Del. – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today joined representatives from Moms Clean Air Force, the Climate Action Campaign, Blue Bird School Buses, and New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer at Banning Park to celebrate the inclusion of funding for electric school buses in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021.

”I was proud to deliver a historic investment this week in clean transportation infrastructure— including billions in clean and electric school buses and electric vehicle charging stations,” said Senator Carper. “Today, millions of school children ride a school bus to school that is dangerous for their health and dangerous for our planet. We must tackle this crisis head-on. The progress we made this week is the start, not the end, of that effort to make the air we breathe cleaner for generations to come.”

Senator Carper has long championed clean buses. He originally helped author and pass the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) to replace older diesel engines with cleaner, American-made alternatives. Carper successfully reauthorized the program last year and has applauded EPA’s efforts to put the money towards cleaner school buses.
