Carper Meets with President-elect Biden’s Nominee for Energy Secretary

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement after meeting yesterday with former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the U.S. Department of Energy. Senator Carper’s statement on the announcement of Governor Granholm’s nomination can be found here.

“It was such a pleasure to meet with Jennifer Granholm, President-elect Biden’s nominee to lead the Department of Energy. As a recovering governor and leader in clean energy innovation and deployment, I can think of no one better to serve as Secretary of Energy during this pivotal time. She has a proven record of leading through times of crisis. That’s what she did as Governor of Michigan when she worked with the Obama-Biden Administration to save the American auto industry. It’s also what she will do in Washington.

“Governor Granholm has the strategic vision to unleash a clean energy future in our country—one that creates millions of good-paying jobs and ensures vulnerable communities reap the economic benefits. She has steadfast faith in the ability of American workers to lead our country through the greatest challenges we face, like the climate crisis. She will be an excellent Secretary of Energy. I encourage my colleagues in the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to swiftly consider and confirm her nomination.”
