Carper Statement on CBO Analysis of ACA Repeal-and-Delay

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its analysis of the Senate Republicans’ bill that would repeal the ACA with a two-year delay.

“Repealing the Affordable Care Act without a replacement plan would have disastrous effects on people’s lives and our health care system. To be frank, this course of action is just a hasty and reckless attempt by Republican leadership to make good on a campaign slogan when, instead, we should focus on working together across party lines to do what President Trump has said time and time again he wants to do: provide better health care at a lower cost for every American. Repealing the Affordable Care Act means the individual insurance markets would dissolve, leaving millions of Americans and their families with no options for health coverage. Hospitals and health care centers would close, leaving millions of people, especially those living in rural communities, stranded with no access to care.

“Over the past few weeks, I’ve had conversations with several Republican colleagues and governors from both sides of the aisle who agree with me that it’s time to hit the pause button, return to regular order and work together in an open and bipartisan way to reduce health care costs and improve our health care system.”
