Carper Statement on Court Decision to Delay Decision on Climate Actions

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement after the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the Trump Administration’s request for a pause in court deliberations as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) works to repeal the Clean Power Plan – the nation’s first–ever national standard to reduce dangerous greenhouse gases emitted from power plants.

“I am deeply disappointed that the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has granted the Trump Administration’s request and delayed a decision in the lawsuit against the Clean Power Plan. When it comes to addressing climate change, the absolute last thing we need is further delay. I hope with tomorrow’s climate march the Trump Administration will finally realize that the American people want us to act now to address climate change in a serious way. States and cities around the country that are on the frontlines dealing with effects of climate change every day know that we cannot afford inaction, as do Fortune 500 companies and 97 percent of the world’s scientists. It’s long past time that the Trump Administration took note.”
