Carper Statement on Federal Court Ruling on Trump Immigration Ban

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), a senior member on the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, released the following statement on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling to block President Trump’s executive order to refuse refugees from Syria and suspend entry of immigrants from seven Muslim majority countries.

“The court’s ruling is a victory for our Constitution, our values as a nation and our principles as a democracy, which are anchored by three coequal branches of government. President Trump’s executive order to block Syrian refugees and ban entry of immigrants from seven Muslim majority countries is not just unconstitutional—it’s fundamentally un-American. This unsafe and uninformed policy endangers our national security and it jeopardizes our nation’s ability to lead the world with moral clarity. We can fortify our refugee and immigrant vetting process and keep Americans safe without steamrolling the law.”
