Carper Statement on Inauguration of Dr. Dennis Assanis as President of the University of Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement on the Inauguration of Dr. Dennis Assanis as the 28th President of the University of Delaware.

“I congratulate Dr. Dennis Assanis today as he is inaugurated as the 28th president of the University of Delaware. For nearly three centuries, the university has not only produced excellent graduates who are ready to excel in the workforce, but it has also been a driver of innovation in our state and region. The university continues to make strides through its new research and collaboration programs at the STAR Campus and ICE Lab, and it has always fostered the free exchange of ideas and knowledge, which is critical for a vibrant educational community. I am confident Dennis will continue this tradition of excellence and the university’s enduring commitment to our community.

“With a worldwide reputation as a scholar and educator in the engineering field, he is an excellent choice. He also has an impressive track record of developing initiatives to strengthen the faculty, graduate and undergraduate academics, research programs and global engagement. I welcome Dennis and his wife, Eleni, to the university community and look forward to working together to continue offering world-class education opportunities to students in the First State.”
