Carper Statement on New Wilmington VAMC Director

WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, released the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced the appointment of Vincent Kane as the new director of the Wilmington VA Medical Center (VAMC).

“I welcome Vincent Kane to serve as the new director at our Wilmington VA Medical Center. I’m encouraged that Mr. Kane has nearly two decades of experience at the VA, and has spearheaded nationwide efforts to drive down veteran homelessness. I am hopeful he will provide the Wilmington VAMC with the steady leadership it needs to improve morale, recruit top-notch doctors and nurses, and ultimately continue to improve the level of care our veterans receive there.

“Our veterans deserve the nation’s steadfast commitment to taking care of them long after they return to civilian life, which includes providing them with access to high-quality health care. I believe that Mr. Kane understands that solemn promise. I look forward to working closely with him to ensure that the Wilmington VAMC has the resources it needs to uphold our commitment to veterans.”
