Carper Statement on Nomination of David Pekoske for Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper, a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGAC) Committee, released the following statement on the HSGAC committee approval of the nomination of David Pekoske to lead the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

“The Transportation Security Administration’s mission is made all the more challenging by the two difficult and diametrically opposed tasks that we ask them to perform. While we rely on TSA to screen more than one million passengers and their luggage each day without allowing a single dangerous individual or item through, we also ask TSA to perform that screening as fast as possible to enhance the travel experience.

“It’s critical that TSA has strong leadership to continue the progress made by Admiral Neffenger to nourish a culture of accountability in its workforce and reinvigorate agency wide efforts to fulfill its critical mission. Mr. Pekoske is a well-qualified nominee who in many ways emulates the leadership skills of Admiral Neffenger. I am confident that Mr. Pekoske has the right vision and expertise for this important job, and I urge that the full Senate move swiftly to approve his nomination.”
