Deadline Nears for Prime Hook’s Draft Conservation Plan Public Comment Period

Delaware Delegation urges Delawareans to participate in public comment process by Monday deadline

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Today, U.S. Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons and Rep. John Carney (all D-Del.) reminded Delawareans that the public comment period for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) for the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Sussex County ends this Monday, August 27. The draft plan was released on May 31.

“The release of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) is a vital step toward finalizing a deliberative and thoughtful plan for the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge,” said the Delegation. “As the public comment period draws to a close this Monday, we urge Delawareans to add their views and participate in the process. It remains critical that the planning process is transparent and fair to the community so that the best decisions are made. We will continue to ensure that community members have every opportunity to participate in this ongoing process and that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Administration are well aware of the importance of this effort and are fully engaged as it finalizes the CCP plan.”

In March, Delaware’s Congressional Delegation sent a letter to U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to urge his agency to release the long-delayed plan.
